Why York House School?

York House School is a transformative, all-girls school in Vancouver, Canada. Our approach, rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy and the B.C. Curriculum (with Advanced Placement courses), ensures that student life and learning unfold in full colour from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Here, students pursue academic excellence, but the most memorable lessons come outside of tests and textbooks. Girls find their unique spark through inquiry-based activities, student-led initiatives, volunteering, creating art, exploring new technologies, competing on the sports field, and embarking on adventures in cities and wilderness. While there are infinite paths to fulfillment, each Yorkie grounds their learning in the tradition of “Not for Ourselves Alone.”

  • What kind of student thrives at York House?

    Are you a female-identifying student who looks for more in your education, loves the arts or athletics, and cares about the world around you? We are looking for enthusiastic learners, eager participants, and risk-takers with a global perspective who will embody our motto: Not for Ourselves Alone.

  • When can a student apply to York House School?

    Students can apply to the school one year in advance. Students can typically begin an application starting in September for the following school year.

    The intake years at York House School are:

    Junior Kindergarten - 16 students
    Senior Kindergarten - 24 students
    Grade 5 - 4 students
    Grade 8 - 28 students
    All other grades - limited spots available. Applications are highly encouraged.

  • What is the average class size?

    Junior Kindergarten: 16 children with two teachers
    Senior Kindergarten: 20 children with two teachers
    Junior school: 20-22 students per class
    Senior School: class size varies from 6 to 22 students depending on the subject

  • What programs are offered at the Little School?

    The York House Little School is located at 3274 East Boulevard, nine blocks away from our main campus. Our Reggio Emilia inspired programs include one full-day Junior Kindergarten class and two full-day Senior Kindergarten classes.

  • Do you offer financial aid?

    We believe diverse students bring unique perspectives and lived experiences that will help our inclusive community flourish. York House School offers financial aid to new students entering Grade 8, and is available throughout the student’s time with us. Financial Aid applicants are assessed for their merit and financial need.

  • What are the post-secondary options for York House graduates?

    Virtually 100% of our graduates continue their studies at post-secondary institutions. Our Yorkies enroll in a variety of university programs in Canada, the United States, and around the world. Some of our graduates also dedicate a gap year to exchange, volunteer, and job opportunities.
