Financial Aid For New Students

Through the generous support of our community, York House School gives more than $1 million in financial aid each year.

Families who are looking for financial aid will submit their applications concurrently with their admissions applications. Financial aid applications are reviewed confidentially by the YHS Financial Aid Committee. This year’s financial aid applications are due November 8, 2024.

We work closely with families to understand their circumstances and support them throughout the application process. For inquiries, please contact admissions@yorkhouse.ca

Financial Aid FAQs

List of 5 items.

  • Who is eligible for financial aid?

Financial aid is available to newly enrolled Grade 8 students who meet the School’s admission requirements and can demonstrate that their financial resources are insufficient to meet school fees. We welcome applicants who are engaged in academics, involved in their community and in co-curricular activities, and demonstrate potential to enrich York House School with diverse perspectives.

To determine a family’s eligibility for Financial Aid, our third-party financial review partners will do an assessment of our applicants’ financial circumstances and provide a recommendation to the YHS Financial Aid Committee. This recommendation is based on factors such as income, assets, and lifestyle expenditures. Families are expected to ensure that they are prioritizing their child’s educational expenses and that all other available options have been exhausted within reasonable levels.
  • Does financial aid cover all tuition and fees?

Financial aid can cover partial to full tuition and other school program expenses. Award amounts are based on the family’s financial need as determined by third party analysis and available funding. Financial aid for costs associated with curricular / co-curricular programs, activities or excursions, is also available. The amount received may equal up to the percentage of tuition assistance that a student receives, to a maximum of 90% of total costs.
  • Is financial aid renewable every school year?

Families receiving Financial Aid will have their award amount renewed yearly with the help of our third-party financial review partners to ensure that families are receiving the assistance they need.
  • Where does the financial aid funding come from?

Our financial aid is funded by the generous support of the YHS community including families, alums, and individual donors through Named Scholarships and endowment funds. The YHS Foundation stewards these funds to ensure ongoing financial support for our students.
  • How is my information on the financial aid application being used?

YHS uses an external financial review service provider to objectively evaluate all financial aid applications. The confidential report provides recommendations on each family’s financial aid eligibility and amount. Only the YHS Financial Aid Committee and YHS Foundation have access to this information in order to make a final decision on the application.
